The hotel was very conveniently located in the center of Mayfair. Taxis were always available. The bar was rather expensive (not unusual for a downtown hotel). There was a casino adjacent which offered less expensive food and drink but was a bit of a hassle to get in and out of. Our room had a king size bed, which my travel agent said was not availabe in England. The furnishings were pleasant, cleaned daily and the bed even turned down each night. The concierge was very knowlegable and helpful. We ate at two 5 star restaurants, each a long walk or a short cab ride from the hotel; Le Boudin Blanc (French) and Veeraswami (Indian.) Both casual and not expensive for Mayfair. We would definitly recommend the Mayfair and would stay again.

first room, not cleaned. second room, clean but austere. asked for ice, never came. asked that a dinner cart be removed, no response. the philosophy of this hotel seems built on the model of a maximum security prison. the guests are mischief makers who must be monitored at every turn. even though we'd put down the required $* deposit on the minibar, when we tried to open it, a huge alarm went off and kept going. if you move a bottle out of the minibar to make room for something of your own, you are charged for their bottle, even if you put it back in. the fridge is apparently equipped with a sensor. for security, you need to insert your room card to get the elevator to go to your floor. although we'd been okayed for a 1pm checkout, our cards were cancelled at noon so they didn't work and we had to get new ones. in the end, we got paroled and went home. one good thing: the bed was excellent.

Traveling to London 4 times or more a year, I've stayed at many hotels in the city. The Mayfair has been my favorite by far. The staff is really helpful and the rooms are so spacious and comfortable. As a business traveler, high speed internet is really important and they're service is complimentary and reliable. The breakfast buffet is really delicious and very convenient. Hotel is just half a block to the Green Park tube which has two lines and makes getting around very inexpensive and easy.

After reading the reviews I expected more than a modernized Motel 6. The only discernable difference was a flat screen TV and the utter lack of privacy. The bathroom is an echo chamber with only a frosted glass sliding panel separating it from the bedroom. This extends to the neighbors, as well. I know this from hearing our neighbor every morning. There are no pictures on the wall other than two small ones in the dark entryway. Your closet, hair dryer, and safe are in a completely open space just INSIDE the bathroom. Forget about getting to anything you need if anyone is using the bathroom. The shower was completely open and floods the floor. The makeup mirror mounted to the wall would be awesome if you were 3 ft tall - it was installed upside down and below the full mirror so you cannot move it to a normal view. We requested a wake up call the two nights we spent there as soon as we knew our schedules for the next day. We never got a call either time. When I checked out and told the attendant about our experience, they offered to give us an upgrade or free breakfast the next time we stayed - ignoring the fact that since we were on holiday from Texas. The only positive thing I can say about the experience is that they do not charge for internet connectivity in their business center ,although connectivity was extrememly slow, and they had an awesome concierge that recommended a great pub around the corner for dinner and got us tickets at the last minute to a completely full tour for the next morning. My recommendation: book somewhere else - try City Inn.

This is not the greatest hotel in the world but it doesn't doesn't claim to be. The rates are VERY reasonable. You get more than what you pay for. The location is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable and the service is attentive, if a bit frantic. I've been there twice before and will go back.
